I've been meaning to write a journal entry about this. Mulled over it for a long time, thinking that maybe my feelings will change. But, here we are.
I'll likely submit much less fanart sprites to DeviantArt in the future due to unresolved problems with art thieves. When I joined this site back in late 2006, I was still just a novice artist trying to find my bearings and now many years have passed. I've met lots of people on this site, made some great friends and upset some thin-skinned folks. But most importantly, I've grown as both an artist and as a person. Popularity comes at a cost, as I've seen an increasing amount of my work just shamelessly stolen and reposted on this very site, sometimes others. I have contacted several of the people involved, but for the most part they never respond or even worse, just ignore me. I fear to submit new pictures as over a dozen art thieves are watching me here. That's not good.
To let others see whatever I created, that was my reason for joining DeviantArt. I never intended for my gallery to be some public resource. A few awesome people have helped me deal with troublesome situations before, but I figured it would just be easier to not take part in any of that. Haven't seen my original characters and such being used by someone else (yet), so I figure that's the best way to keep my account alive and my sanity intact.
Don't be too concerned about all this, because I'm really not even angry. Just disappointed. Disappointed that many people don't respect the work that goes into these things. Maybe my stance on this will change in the future and I'll stop caring, who knows, but for now I'm extremely cautious about the content I submit here. I only encourage replying to this journal, but please send private matters over a note. Just no drama, please.
